This is how you can establish a remote work culture

Work culture can make or break your company. Nowadays, due to the pandemic, everything is done remotely, hence it is very important that you establish a healthy remote work culture. It is important to establish a connection between the company and its employees. Work culture is important because it affects the growth of the organization and the productivity and efficiency of your employees. Owing to the covid situation, maintaining a remote work culture has now become important more than ever.

What are the steps to build a remote culture?

  • Establish trust and psychological support- A good company culture offers a good work environment. The work atmosphere should be filled with trust and respect. The company leader should be humble and show up with interest in their employees, especially when working remotely. Employee should not feel that they are not respected in the organization or they are being demeaned in any way. Offer the psychological support your employees need, because this whole concept of working remotely is new to all of us.
  • Communicate the goals of your organization- When working remotely, make sure you communicate the goals and objectives clearly. Explain the mission of the organization clearly to your employees. It becomes easier to work and achieve these goals when all the employees understand and work better towards reaching the objective.
  • Be extremely transparent about your work policy- Working remotely can cause several misunderstandings due to the lack of presence of all workers together in the office. You need to be absolutely clear while explaining the work policy to your employees so that they know what they are signing up for. They should not have any confusion, whatsoever, in their mind about their job role and description.
  • Establish certain team rituals- Set team meetings and establish rituals that the team does together. Like, make it a point that everyday at 2 in the afternoon there is going to be a team meeting and each member is going to address their issues or problems faced in any project assigned to them. Update your work at the end of the day after your shift gets over. This way you can also keep a track of all the work done and the issues of your employees even while working from home.
  • Prioritize your work- Prioritizing your work is extremely important when working remotely. You may tend to feel the need to respond to all messages and calls immediately but don’t forget to set up a schedule and separate timing for the more important work. Make time for your major work by sending in a DND reminder if needed.
  • Take regular feedback and make amendments- Talk to your team which is working remotely and ask them what worked for them, where they faced issues and what are the common problems coming in the way of their work. These feedbacks are very important so that you can make adjustments for the future and new hires. Continuously keep updating your process and improvising.
  • Find ways to engage your employees- You need to look for creative ideas to keep your employees engaged. Hold happy hours or lunch sessions in between the work to foster a positive work environment. Establishing a healthy and light work environment will only benefit your organization. Remote work can get monotonous and boring after some time and hence you need to keep coming up with good ideas to engage your employees and make sure the connection isn’t lost.
  • Hold webinars- Keep your remote team informed about any policy changes or any other work changes in the company by holding webinars and educating them about the concerned topic. This way it will help your team to grow and learn. Hold webinars related to the remote work culture and impart knowledge about the same to increase the understanding among employees.

Good work culture will help you in overcoming any challenges that you might face during remote work. It is important to establish a healthy work-life balance. You can establish a good remote work culture only if you are flexible towards changes. Keep learning more and more about this kind of culture because we never know how long is this going to continue.
